The following Code of Conduct has been established to ensure the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, and mutual respect among players, coaches, officials, and spectators. All Bend FC club policies, rules, and parent agreements shall be followed and agreed too. Bend FC is a member of Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA), US Youth Soccer Association (USYSA), US Club Soccer, and the Girls Academy and follows policies set forth by our governing organizations.
Coaches’ Code of Conduct
Coaches are role models, educators, and leaders. They are expected to:
- Knowledge of the Game
- Understand and uphold official league and competition rules.
- Prioritize player development, safety, and enjoyment over winning.
- Respect for Officials
- Always show respect to referees and game officials.
- Never openly question or challenge their decisions.
- Sportsmanship & Respect
- Demonstrate respect toward opposing coaches, players, and parents.
- Teach and model humility in victory and grace in defeat.
- Take steps to minimize scoring in runaway games to maintain fairness and respect for all players.
- Professional Behavior
- Maintain composure and self-control at all times.
- Avoid language, gestures, or actions that could be interpreted as hostile, abusive, or humiliating.
- Teaching Character
- Instill the values of sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork, and respect.
- Demonstrate these values consistently in both practice and games.
Players’ Code of Conduct
Players represent not only themselves but also their families, teammates, coaches, and Bend FC. They are expected to:
- Respect & Self-Control
- Maintain control of emotions in all circumstances.
- Never use abusive, profane, or offensive language, gestures, or taunts.
- Sportsmanship
- Respect opposing players, coaches, and referees at all times.
- Display humility and generosity in victory; be proud and respectful in defeat.
- Shake hands and show courtesy at the conclusion of every game.
- Fair Play
- Compete hard but fair—no violent or deliberate fouls.
- Honor the spirit as well as the letter of the rules.
- Citizenship Beyond the Field
- Strive to be good citizens at school, at home, in the community, and on the field.
- Uphold the values of respect, responsibility, and integrity in all aspects of life.
Parents’ Code of Conduct
Parents and guardians are essential partners in their child’s soccer experience. They are expected to:
- Sideline Behavior
- Refrain from coaching or instructing players from the sidelines.
- Encourage and cheer in a positive manner only.
- Respect for All Participants
- Treat coaches, players, referees, staff, and other parents with respect.
- Never openly question or challenge the decisions of game officials.
- Avoid negative, abusive, or hostile comments, gestures, or actions.
- Sportsmanship
- Model humility in victory and grace in defeat.
- Congratulate both teams after games and support good play regardless of team.
- Help reinforce good sportsmanship and fair play by word and action.
- Language & Conduct
- Refrain from the use of profanity, offensive language, or disrespectful behavior.
- Maintain control of emotions to ensure a positive environment for all children.
Commitment to Positive Soccer
Bend FC is committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment that promotes fun, learning, and growth for all participants. Any violation of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to warnings, suspensions, or removal from Bend FC programs.
- By participating in Bend FC, each player, coach, and parent/guardian acknowledges and accepts this Code of Conduct as a condition of membership.
**US Soccer Policy 531-9, "referee abuse prevention policy", will be strictly enforced for the 2025/26 season and forward.
Violations of the Code of Conduct
Violations of the Code of Conduct should be reported to the Club Executive Director, General Manager, or Director of Coaching. The aforementioned will conduct a review and present the findings to the Technical Committee. Actions may range from warning, personal apology, probation, suspension, or expulsion from the club. Players, spectators, parents, and coaches who are members of Bend FC are responsible for their actions.
